Dash

Dash photo through steering wheel

The first thing you notice when you slide behind the wheel of a Cosworth Vega is the Cosworth only Gold Engine Turned dash. Standard in all Cosworth's is a Fuel Gage, Temperature Gage, Speedometer (no trip meter), an 8,000 RPM Tach (Red Line 6,500), Voltmeter and Clock. If optioned the "Electro Clear" rear defogger switch is located on the lower left corner just below the fuel gage. In the center if the dash above the if optioned Radio is a small pocket for your sunglasses or garage door opener, just below this storage compartment is the dash plaque which is stamped with the cars sequential dash number.. In front of the passenger is the glove box and above it is a grab handle. There are no vents in the dash for directing air towards the passengers. All Vegas came equipped with floor vents controlled by a simple pull/push knob, surprisingly these flow a lot of air, as long as the car is in motion. The steering wheel comes out of the Vega GT and Camaro parts bin, and is fully manual, no power steering was available. Tilt may have been an option but 0321 is not so equipped, nor have I seen a Factory installed tilt column. The Center of the horn features a Special Cosworth only button in Blue and Silver.

Seats & Seating Surfaces

Drivers side interior photo
A "Base" Cosworth Vega came standard with the Custom Interior featuring your choice of a Black or White perforated vinyl seating surface, not the perfect set up for a Black NO-A/C automobile. When 0321 was ordered the check box for the cloth seating surface was ticked, this results in a seat which is almost bearable when the sun is shining and its 80 degrees out. Standard is a two position drivers seat back and a folding rear seat back incase you find the need to camp out in your car or to haul home some lumber for that weekend project around the house. Some Cosworth's can be found with a cloth headliner, however 0321 has its original black perforated hard board headliner still in place. All Cosworth's came with carpeting, in 1975 the only carpet available was black.

Rear Hatch Area

View from Hatch area looking forward into car It is interesting that in today's world automobile manufacturers have limited the amount of body styles built. When the Vega came out you could order a sedan, hatch back, station wagon or a panel delivery truck which was nothing but a wagon less windows. The Cosworth from the factory was only available as a hatch back with a folding rear seat. This is actually a nice combination as going to car shows it is possible to carry a lot of things with you. Cleaning gear, folding chairs, your box of literature etc, etc. As you can see in the photo's while 0321 has spent most of its life garage kept and it does have tinted glass the carpet has faded from the sun, most noticeable when the rear seat is folded down. Under the load floor in the back you will find the spare tire, jack and jack stand. This is also a good place to stash your extra quart of oil and any tools or spare parts you elect to carry. This is also a prime area for rust! While 0321 is 100% rust free be sure to pull the spare tire out if you look at purchasing any Vega and check for rust holes in this area. Under the load floor to the right of the spare tire well is the gas tank. Not shown in the hatch area is the rear speaker for the optional AM/FM Stereo radio.

Only Interior option not included in 0321: AM/FM/8-track.
